This artwork depicts the Green Dome rising above Madinah. The structure that marks the resting place of the Prophet Muhammad, the most visited site in the Islamic world after the Kaaba.
The dome as it exists today was built by the Mamluk Sultan Qalawun in the thirteenth century and painted green during the Ottoman period. It has been expanded, rebuilt, and restored across twelve centuries, each generation of Muslim rulers treating its maintenance as an obligation. The colour has become inseparable from the city in the Muslim imagination. Green dome, white minarets, the warm stone of the Hejaz.
For a home that keeps Madinah close. For a wall that needs something that matters.
